Individual Tutorial Work

As a teacher and reading specialist, I work with students and their families to provide academic support as needed. This service is both for students applying to schools and students already in an on-going school. Services include:

Individual parent and child interviews
Conversations with current school (if applicable)
Academic evaluation
Development of individualized remedial program

Relocation Consulting

For families relocating to New York, especially those families with little or no knowledge of New York City Independent Schools, the admission process can seem overwhelming. I provide insight regarding individual schools and the entire application process and assist in identifying the right match for a child and family. New York City has abundant educational options but that very abundance may seem daunting and the application process can be challenging for a newcomer. My services include all those listed under “Preschool and On-going School Advisory” as well as the following:

Providing an overview of New York City neighboorhoods, nearby schools and commuting options
Setting up school visits and interviews for out of town families
Intensive language enrichment for applicants whose first language is not English
Assistance in finding after school and summer programs

Preschool and On-going School Advisory

I work with families who are interested in applying to either preschools or on-going independent/private schools in the New York City area. I work with both the child and the parent(s) in order to have the most complete understanding of the school applicant and his or her family. I provide the following services:

Extensive, initial parent consultation regarding family, schools and the application process
Recommended list of appropriate schools
Enrichment activities and/or academic support for applicant
Information regarding school visits and interviews
Help create a calendar and timeline for school applications
Critique of essays and applications
Feedback and support during the application process
Assistance with final decision process
Follow-up services
