About me

My Philosophy

As a parent, I understand intimately the challenges parents face in finding the right school for a child. For me, fit is paramount, as evidenced by my own children attending three different New York City independent schools. I am especially qualified to speak to the relative merits of co-educational vs. single sex schools; my three children attended a co-ed, all-girl and all-boy school, respectively.

My Story

I am a life-long New Yorker with a passion for education. After graduating from Connecticut College where I majored in Psychology, I was hired as an assistant teacher for a first-grade class at the Dalton School. While at Dalton, I earned an M.A. from Teacher's College at Columbia University where I also received my New York State teaching certification. In subequent years I worked as head teacher at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church Day School and as Activities Coordinator at The Hewitt School. After earning an Ed.M. from Harvard University as a reading specialist, I established a private practice working with students from Brearley, Chapin, Dalton and St. David’s among other schools.

I took time off after the birth of my third child before returning to work at The Brearley School where I served as Associate Director of Admission for over ten years. As Associate Director I interviewed hundreds of parents and observed and evaluated an even greater number of applicants each year. I also served on the school’s three-person admissions committee. While at Brearley, I headed the Admissions office's outreach efforts visiting dozens of preschools throughout New York City and developing relationships with many school heads.

Community Engagement

In addition to my consulting work I serve on the board of The Brick Church School’s Summer Steps program and on the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing where I am actively involved with the school's Center for Global Women’s Health.
